Connecting Roofs

Historic military roof structures are given a second life as the framework for a new social hub in Mannheim’s emerging Spinelli-Süd neighborhood. Three elevated timber volumes float above a shared courtyard, keeping the ground open for gathering, play and everyday movement.

The central courtyard becomes a flexible space for gathering, play and events, while planted edges and informal seating create smaller places to pause and meet. Permeable surfaces and biodiverse planting extend the landscape between and beneath the buildings, bringing ecology and community life together.
